A light, sweet, fantastical and magical story with many perspectives from which to enjoy this book. oh and flying brooms!

A Short Description:
1st Star - helped pass time (minimum - it's gotta help me pass time),
2nd Star - Light, sweet, and romantic,
3rd Star - Straight forward and pleasant plots and intrigues. Characters are largely in-line with the original.
4th Star - Magical and slightly funny the way it's just magical using P&P characters, largely keeps characters in-line with original.

The Long Description:
Thought about 5 stars - but well - if it was longer with more twists and turns and et cetera - I prolly would of given it a solid 5. Can't really tell if it is a short-story as the plot(s) are fairly simple, straight-forward, and crosses with many from the original P&P; or a novella - which is generally longer than "3500 words" or so. Well I will go with Novella. Anyways, this story is a wonderful read as I like Fantasy and Sci-Fi genres as well. This novella brought it all together by keeping largely in-line with both the characters and story-line with a magical twist. I kept thinking Harry Potter for some reason every time magic was used - it was both irritating, funny, comical, and somewhat romantic. Consider trying this novella. Originally read with Kindle Unlimited and enjoyed it that I bought it. If fantasy/magic is not really your cup of tea, you may stay away from it - however, while I do not normally favor comedies, even I found that if taken from a comedic point of view, the novella can still be very enjoyable. I think there are many ways and points of view to enjoying this novella.
- From a classical view - it keeps pretty much in line with the original story so a lot of conversations and similar. Sort of, kind of, very lightly feminist under-tones - which is probably caused by some literary lessons from my past about symbolism and all that other "nonsense".
- From a fantasy view - no swords in this novella - not even fencing - but there's magic!!! Fantasy & romance!
- From a comedy view - there's is really nothing "comedic" in this novel. It is just if you view it as like a cross between Robin Hood, Harry Potter, and Pride and Prejudice and a lot of imagination about flying brooms - it's just makes the whole novella enjoyably funny.

Elizabeth is a Witch

After casting a love spell on Mr. Darcy, as form of revenge, Elizabeth rescinds the spell the next day, but when proposed to at Hunsford, believe he is still under her spell. This brief summary gives you an idea of where the story might go as Elizabeth not only rejects him but has to explain why she has rejected him. Her reasons, as you might tell are different than in the original.

This is a very short story - under 100 pages - so if you want a quick read this one would work. It is not a bad story but a little pricy considering the length. I would say it is "okay" but not the most intriguing story I ever read. I felt more could have been done with the plot and story line, and the story could have been flushed out more. Even more tension could have been achieved but everything was dealt with quickly making it a very compact story; nothing I would, at this time consider worthy is a second reading.

I borrowed this on kindle unlimited, and an glad I choose that route rather than paying nearly $4.00 for the short book.

The Treasure of Ancient Greek Coins

This is a magnificent book and a great resource for numismatists and ancient coin collectors. This is just the introductory tome for the initiate to learn the basics of Numismatics, as well as reacquaint the amateur historian with ancient Greek and Hellenistic history. G.K. Jenkins is an eminent numismatist, formerly Keeper of the Department of Coins and Medals at the British Museum, and collectors of ancient coins can learn a great deal from his singular knowledge and wisdom of these treasured objects. Jenkin's cataloging of gold and electrum staters of ancient Carthage -- the Zeugitania series of coins -- consecutive groups depending on date of coinage, gold weight, and die strike series is a great accomplishment in the art and science of Numismatics. These coins are beautiful treasures to ancient coin collectors. They depict on the obverse the head of the goddess Tanit wearing an elaborate necklace with multiple pendants, and triple drop earrings; the reverse has inscribed a magnificent horse standing majestically.

We learn for example that much knowledge was gained from the excavations of the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus and the foundations of the temples built in the area by the fabulously rich King Croesus of Lydia. Both Herodotus and the archaeological evidence agree the first coins were minted in Lydia in the region of Ionia about 700 B.C. The earliest Greek coins were stamped with a punch mark, the characteristic reverse of most archaic Greek coins.

At first coins were of high value, and the original stater was an electrum coin weighing 14 to 16 grams. Electrum occurs naturally in the silt of the the Paktalos river that flows through Sardis, the ancient capital of Lydia. The stream loaded with this metal, a mixture of gold and silver, was dredged with sheepskin that may have given rise to the legend of the Golden Fleece and the tales of King Midas, the avaricious and legendary monarch whose touch converted everything to gold.

Electrum and later gold and silver staters quickly gained currency with Greek merchants and soldiers. Xenophon relates that mercenaries were paid one stater per month by their employers. He should know best of all, as he participated, led, and wrote about the historic march of the 10,000 in his book the Anabasis.

Eventually, smaller coins were needed for change and conducting smaller transactions. The smaller electrum hektes (or hectes) coins weighting about 2.5 grams were coined in the Island of Lesbos and in Kyzikos, Phokaia, and other islands and coast of Ionia. Lesbos minted hektes with artistic and fanciful obverses, and from the beginning, the reverse also had figures, rather than a punch mark. The age of hektes lasted about 200 years, until the 4th century B.C. Silver coins were also developed and were depicted with more civic emblems.

Perhaps to coin collectors the most practical knowledge, besides the superb description of coins (with excellent black and white and color photography), is the narrative on die sequences. Ancient coin sequence based on the study of dies used in producing the obverse and reverse of coins and their wear help establish successive connections to establish the origin of a coin. Another method used in this endeavor is the paramount study of coin hoards. This book has excellent descriptions and succinct explanations on these two essential methods of determining the origin of coins. This book is highly recommended to numismatists and coin collectors, particularly those with an interest in ancient Greek and Hellenic coins.

Greg Curran is the author of Homework Helpers: Chemistry (Career Press). He has a B.A. in biology and psychology from SUNY-Purchase and an M.S. in curriculum and teaching from Fordham University. Well-written and Useful Introduction/Review of Physics

One of the reasons I bought this physics study aid was because I read Mr. Curran's "Homework Helpers-Chemistry" and found it to be an excellent help in my pursuit to learn Chemistry. The author once again has hit a homerun with his physics book. Concepts from the classical areas of physics (Newtonian mechanics, electricity, magnetism, light, thermodynamics)covered in a first-year course in high school or college are explained in a conversational style while retaining appropriate rigor. The chapter tests are well-written (with the answers to test questions explained), and the interspersed diagrams help to reinforce topics covered in each chapter. I'm glad I came across both of these books.

The book arrived within a week and is helping me greatly prepare for the CSET science exam. Another excellent resourse is the Homework Helper-Chemistry. I recommend either of these books for anyone taking physics or chemistry at the high school, college level or someone like me preparing for a test. The Homework Helper assists me when I don't quite get the concept from the text book. Great resource. There are some questions that are given to help one understand and then the answers are just a few pages away.

This book provides a framework for thinking about economic institutions such as firms. The basic idea is that institutions arise in situations where people write incomplete contracts and where the allocation of power or control is therefore important. Power and control are not standard concepts in economic theory. The book begins by pointing out that traditional approaches cannot explain on the one hand why all transactions do not take place in one huge firm and on the other hand why firms matter at all. An incomplete contracting or property rights approach is then developed. It is argued that this approach can throw light on the boundaries of firms and on the meaning of asset ownership. In the remainder of the book, incomplete contracting ideas are applied to understand firms' financial decisions, in particular, the nature of debt and equity (why equity has votes and creditors have foreclosure rights); the capital structure decisions of public companies; bankruptcy procedure; and the allocation of voting rights across a company's shares. The book is written in a fairly non-technical style and includes many examples. It is aimed at advanced undergraduate and graduate students, academic and business economists, and lawyers, as well as those with an interest in corporate finance, privatization and regulation, and the transition from socialism to capitalism. An old gem

An old gem in which Hart summarizes Firm Theory and also Corporate Finance literature. It is helpful for those who want to understand the theory of the firm.

One of the best economics books I've ever read

One of the best economics books I've ever read, a beautiful combination of wisdom and clarity. On the first page, Hart starts off with a real-life example of an incomplete contract--a home repair or remodeling contract, if memory serves. Then he shows you how prudent (shrewd?) people will tend to set up firms and financial contracts when the world is like that, when the only contracts you can write are incomplete ones, where you want to create incentives today for your partner to behave well in the complicated, unpredictable future.

Hart's book shows the payoff to pure economic theory. He makes his points with algebra and good clear microeconomic thinking. Strongly recommended for advanced undergraduates and anyone who has wondered why the economy is organized the way it is.

Brilliant piece

I was not interested in any micro theory prior to reading this book. I felt many modern advances in micro theory is purely mathematicians' game, which has little relevance towards reality. That view changed first when I had the pleasure to learn contract theory from Hart. His immensely interesting lecture lured me into actually reading his book, from which his lecture draws and is as fascinating and lucid as his lecture. His explanation is very clear, and refers back to his canonical model of GM to illustrate how theory is relevant to reality. He demonstrates how contract theory answers some questions that neoclassical theory or any established theory could not answer. Another strength of this book and of Hart is that he is able to answer intriguing and important questions using simple mathematics--All the models presented are striped-down, with no unnecessary complications, and the core insight and intuition is not buried in messy complications. To conclude, this is a wonderful book if your are looking for some insights into the organizations of firms.
