Practical Emotional Intelligence Guidebook

E.Q. Librium is part textbook--and part guidebook. Some of the book does deal with very technical aspects as the author analyzes emotional intelligence. This does give the book a textbook tone at times. Having said that; however, the author illustrates her ideas via real world case studies and helps readers utilize that textbook information in very practical, real-world based exercises.

E.Q. Librium offers a useful resource for managers, employees and students alike. This book shares a lot of well defined technical information regarding emotional intelligence--but, does so in a very practical way. The passages are short, easy to understand--and include a number of exercises and activities to practice the material learned throughout the book. While I can certainly see this book as a useful guide to business managers and professionals--it is presented in such a manner that anyone is able to use the book to better attain their own goals and personal results.

Would I recommend E.Q. Librium by Yvette Bethel? We live in a very emotionally charged world--where technology has taken away some of our innate human interactions. I think many of us forget the role emotions play in our thoughts, actions and events of our days. While this book may be intended for the career oriented/business world--I think it has an even greater value to daily life and our own daily interactions. Emotions drive our behaviors--and our small successes and failures. I would recommend this book to anyone seeking to understand or to re-think our human, emotional responses--or trying to correlate behaviors in those around us to situations and events. This is a great book for those of us asking why we do the things we do--and how we can re-wire ourselves (and encourage others) to do things better or more successfully.

The Perfect Guide to Helping Others Manage Staff and Emotions

One of the things I love is learning about myself and last year I did a course at work all about Emotional Intelligence , so when I had the opportunity to read and review EQ Librium, I jumped at the chance as I find all this information quite interesting and useful. EQ Librium is basically a guide that every working person and especially if you find yourself in a managing position that you should read as it is helpful and will open your mind to a whole lot of new ways to cope with your emotions and the emotive state of others around you. The book is split into two parts, the first is the theories and the different information specs about your emotions - which often if you are not a reader, you could find a tad boring as it does feel like it goes on and on. The second half is the perfect balance for those who love practical work as it is filled with excercises and reflections and to put into practice what you have covered in Part #1. The book is fairly easy to read, with any jargon explained in boxes throughout, there are plenty of case studies throughout demonstrating how the techniques explained actually work, I found these particularly helpful. E.Q. Librium is very worth reading if you work in an office, manage people or aspire to management. Having a better grip on your emotions will help you manage your own life if nothing else.

I recently read dark confessions, followed by decomposing head and finally this one(also have 13 tales) and I am happy to have found Vincent. I enjoyed all of his writing not a raisin on the grapevine. I look forward to seeing more and will not be surprised when his name becomes even more well known. Keep up the great writing and pick any of his works and you're in for a treat.

Just a little.

This was a good collection of flash fiction. There wasn't a single story that I hated, which is rare, and many that made me think or just plain wicked me out! I'm not too sure whether I'd read more from this author, but I would recommend this book. Nice, quick read!

Flash Fiction Collection

This collection of flash fiction horror tales isn't bad. It just isn't that good either. Flash fiction, for those that don't know, is very short short stories. The author limited himself to only 1000 words for these tales. The tales are not badly written, but most of them are just not original. They are tales that have been told before, or at least ones very similar to them have been told. If they aren't old material than they just weren't scary.

While I didn't find anything really memorable or outstanding in this volume, it was well written. Therefore, I would consider reading more writings by the author. But I would probably go with longer works where he could make the story more of his own.

About the Author
Paul J. Nahin is the author of many best-selling popular-math books, including "Digital Dice", "Chases and Escapes", "Dr. Euler's Fabulous Formula", "When Least Is Best", "Duelling Idiots and Other Probability Puzzlers", and "An Imaginary Tale" (all Princeton). He is professor emeritus of electrical engineering at the University of New Hampshire.

a good book with bad opinions

This is an excellent book which combines the history, the
mathematics and the physics of radio. It is not a textbook
and you need to know calculus and physics to understand its
technical chapters. It has ten appendices, they explain the
"bottom" material or background needed in the book. However,
the all book is well written and it has an excellent presentation.
I think that the author's opinions about the
radio developers such as Marconi, DeForest and Tesla
are out of place in a book like this. So I gave three starts.

The Science of Radio

Its surprising that so few books are available covering this subject that has become so important.I enjoyed Nahin's book.It covers the history, better pre-history of radio and combines it with quite a lot of theory.But there's the rub.The book deals with a very specific part of radio history a part that has long since become of lttle other than academic interest.True Nahin does this well with plenty of wit and style.
The first part of Nahin's book deals with theeory earliest radios that were esentialy TRF receivers.Such technology has not existed since the 30's of the last century.Spark transiters are an even greater curisity.He then develops much of the mathematics that underpins these ideas.

A very good read for all those who love both mathematics and the theory and history of radio.
However, its a pity Nahin does not continue to write a true history of radio: FM,AM superhetrodyne, Synthesizers.There a lot of material for the professor including the math he so loves. I'm waiting...

Excellent book - Really deserves to be more widely known.

I really enjoyed this book that ranks with some of the finest technical books I have read. This book should be found along side of The Feynman Lectures on Physics and Terman's Electronic and Radio Engineering. Nahin offers an interesting and readable discussion about the basis of radio communications from a historical vantage point of someone who grew up to witness the end of the golden age of radio. He gives the reader a good, readable introduction to such things as Fourier analylsis, Hartley tranforms, vacuum tube technology, etc. In an effort to keep the book simple, author Paul Nahin did not include any discussion of semiconductor technology. I hape that he will write about solid state physics in a later edition. (or perhaps in another book)

Alexander's appearance in this charming series does more than tie up the loose threads of Jane's muteness; it also sets the stage for further adventures. The story is illustrated with delicate pen-and-ink drawings colored in soft, earth-tone washes. He's soon cold, frightened, and lost in a forest, until Jane, one of the flying cats, rescues him. In gratitude, he later helps Jane regain her speech by encouraging and even bullying her into talking about a traumatic experience in her youth. Although the writing is clear and fluid, the story is less satisfying than earlier Catwings books. Perhaps it's easier to accept a cat who's part bird than a cat who's part psychoanalyst. Still, this sequel has a place in libraries, where the earlier books have a following. S. D. The endearing winged cats who escaped the city to be cared for by two reliable country children (Catwings, 1988, etc.) make a third appearance in this tale of a self-important kitten from nearby who discovers that his true worth is not what he has supposed. Alexander--``the biggest, the strongest, and the loudest''--has never noticed that his sisters are ``quite tired of him,'' but when he sets out to explore the world he soon learns that his cocky preconceptions don't serve. The cow who says ``Moo'' instead of ``Mew'' is unconcerned when he corrects her; speeding trucks and rude dogs threaten; when he bolts up a tree, he can't climb down and his doting parents don't turn up to help. Enter youngest Catwing Jane, nearly mute because of an early trauma (her only words are ``Me'' and ``Hate''), to take Alexander to her home--where his parents and ``Owner'' turn out to be glad to let him stay. After Alexander cajoles and hectors Jane into confronting her fears and describing them with her first real words, the Catwings agree: Alexander is ``wonderful.'' Brief as it is, this is a deftly crafted bildungsroman. The book's small format and Schindler's delicate illustrations add to the enchantment. Catwings Soar

The Catwings books are little treasures. Ursula LeGuin's skilled, poignant, humorous writings and her sensitive insights on genuine, deep emotions combine to entertain, create suspense, and tug at the reader's heartstrings all at the same time. S.D. Schindler's beautiful pen-and-ink illustrations capture the delightful personalities of the cats without becoming cartoons. He makes us believe that cats with wings are entirely possible and real. This amazing illustrator should have received more recognition over the years, for he is a master.

The Catwings books are not only for children. Adults who love cats and who can believe that all things are possible will revere these wonderful stories, as well.

More magical Catwings

This is the 3rd installment in noted author Ursula K. LeGuin's excellent Catwings series. It is as good as the others. The Catwings stories are the adventures of 5 young winged cats that were born to a normal alley cat in a gritty, realistic city. They find their way to an old barn in the country and 2 kind children who look after them, and keep their secret . Alexander is a normal cat who is sure he is destined to do something wonderful. As a kitten, he goes exploring, gets lost, and finds his way to the Catwings and their humans. There he finds friendship, a home, and does indeed something wonderful by helping the youngest Catwing, Jane. A bad experience while a kitten caused her to lose the ability to speak, she can only say 'me' and 'hate'. Alexander helps her overcome her trauma and speak again. This book would be perhaps useful for children with a trauma in their lives. These slender little books with great illustrations can be read by adults, and do not talk down to children. They are warm, and firmly rooted in our world, but have the feel of a magical fairy tale with the winged cats and talking animals. They leave you wanting more. LeGuin is a well known science fiction and fantasy author, who hopefully will write more young children's stories of this caliber.

About the Author
Lucian lives in Florida with his wife and two sons. He also lives with a pack of eight (yes eight) miniature dachshunds that he uses to hunt Garden Gnomes. An avid Gnome hunter since his days with the Fifth Special Gnome Expeditionary Forces based out of Fort Bragg, he has personally been responsible for the reduction in the Florida pest population of the common Garden Gnome, Gnomiansis Gardenii.

Unfortunately, since he uses mini dachshunds to hunt them, he only has a few intact heads in his trophy room.

But if you're in Florida and run into him, he might show them to you.

It's a great series

I beg to differ from another review about the 2nd not being as great as the first. You have to remember that this is a series. Generally, the story continues to be told. I believe that this 2nd book was not only as good as the first, but it has a substantial amount of questions throughout that will be answered.

Fanatastic Second Story

I have not even finished reading this second book yet. I purchased it time I finished the first book. I really like this author's style and stories. They are entertaining and believable and fun to read. There are many times when you read an unknown author that the stories are hard to read and don't flow. Not with this series. I am very happy to have found these books and hope that the author is currently writing the next book.

David Lewman has written more than sixty-five books starring SpongeBob SquarePants, Jimmy Neutron, the Fairly OddParents, G.I. Joe, the Wild Thornberrys, and other popular characters. He has also written scripts for many acclaimed television shows. David lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Donna, and their dog, Pirkle.

My son loves this book and anything that is Dinosaur ...

My son loves this book and anything that is Dinosaur Train. Not only can he tell me which dinosaurs the characters are, but now after reading this book he knows about the Aurora Borealis and wants to learn more.

Good Book if Children like Dinosaur Train

Good book and it is just like the pbs tv episode. My 4 yo loves this episode, so he likes this story. It does not rhyme well and I can see how it might not be able to capture the attention of toddlers.

Great for kids who celebrate Winter Solstice

My son loved reading this book during the holidays. I would really recommend this book for families who don't celebrate religious holidays as the celebration happening in this book is Winter Solstice.
